Pageants and Social Media

If you want to keep your personal life and pageant life separate it’s best to create yourself a pageant “like” page. Judges and directors will be able to see what you put on facebook, twitter, instagram and even snapchat so if you are degrading someone, bullying, sharing vile posts and constant bad language it doesn't give a great impression.

Remember the scandal of Miss Teen USA 2016 who’s twitter was brought into the limelight because a few years ago she used a lot of tweets with the N word? It causes scandal and can give a bad impression to both yourself and to the pageant you are representing. So here are some top tips to being a pageant social media queen:

1. When creating a pageant page, be neutral with the name. Putting your title in the name is great but when that pageant finishes and you enter another, all that hard work gaining fans and interest are wasted when you have to create another page and you end up with all these extra fan pages?

You can of course change the page name or merge the pages together but by going neutral with your name like Hannah Golding Beauty Queen or Paige Warren - Pageant Journey so you can still use your page after you’ve finished competing.

Some pageants will create a page for you or if you are an international winner you will take over the official title page. This is also great because these pages will have thousands of likes to get your pageant journey across but keep a page for yourself so you can look back at your memories!

2. Once you have your pageant page, utilize it! Put up your appearances (which also make it easier when you need to print your appearance folder), tag the relevant people, share what you are going to be doing in the upcoming weeks to gain interest especially if it is for a charity event. People love seeing photos!

If you can write a blog about your pageant experience write and share, from a blog site or from the note section like where this note is from! Upload videos relating, whether its question and answers or about your title, people will watch!

If you can link a pageant instagram to your page that keeps your page more updated with a different social media platform! (But make sure it's not your personal instagram or there will be uploads of nights outs and memes etc).

3.Keep your Personal Life PERSONAL- Social media is a great tool for getting your title known, but it can be for the wrong reason, Be careful what you upload, especially on your public page.

When you wear that sash you are representing that pageant so if you are swearing, getting drunk, revealing body parts that shouldn’t be revealed and uploading all this to facebook then it’s going to put your title is dispute. Look at the issues with a certain queen on reality TV, if it had happened when she wasn't a current titleholder no one would've batted an eyelid but because she was still representing the brand it caused an uproar! Whatever you do in your private life is up to you but make sure it doesn't end up on social media if it’s bad!

If you need inspiration check out other pageant pages, both the pageant and the pageant queens. Watch the videos, read the blogs and when you feel ready, take over social media! Remember you can find out about all the different pageants that exist in the UK, about different events, other pageant queens around your area (that's how we found some of our best pageant friends) and causes which you didn’t know were campaigning. Use all that time on facebook to your advantage!!
